Chief Air Operations (Airline)

Our client is a Dubai-based cargo airline with a strong focus on operational excellence, digital innovation and network expansion. Supported by a modern B737 freighter fleet and advanced cargo infrastructure, the airline serves strategic markets across AMEISC, CIS, Russia, the Stans and China.

Position Overview:

The Chief Air Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all flight-related activities within the cargo aviation business. This position ensures safe, efficient, and compliant air operations while driving operational excellence and supporting the company’s growth objectives. The role currently manages approximately 20 non-crew staff and 40 flight crew members, fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute the air operations strategy aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
• Provide leadership and direction to Flight Operations, Flight Crew Training, Compliance, Flight Dispatch, Engineering, and Flight Safety teams.
• Drive operational efficiency and cost optimization without compromising safety or compliance.

Operational Oversight

• Ensure all flight operations comply with local and international aviation regulations (GCAA, ICAO, IATA).
• Oversee flight scheduling, dispatch, and crew resource management to maximize aircraft utilization and on-time performance.
• Monitor engineering and maintenance coordination to ensure airworthiness and minimize operational disruptions.

Safety & Compliance

• Champion a robust safety management system (SMS) and enforce a safety-first culture across all operations.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory audits, inspections, and certifications.
• Implement risk mitigation strategies and emergency response protocols.

Training & Development

• Oversee flight crew training programs, ensuring competency, regulatory compliance, and continuous skill enhancement.
• Collaborate with HR to develop succession plans and career pathways for operational staff.

Financial & Performance Management

• Manage the air operations budget, including cost control and resource allocation.
• Define and monitor KPIs for operational performance, safety, and compliance.
• Prepare and present operational reports to the executive leadership team.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Currently or previously held Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Minimum 15+ years of experience in aviation operations, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role.
  
• Proven track record in managing flight operations for cargo or commercial airlines.
• In-depth knowledge of international aviation regulations and safety standards.
